Southbanks luxury make over
November 26, 2014
The Sea Containers building on the Southbank was originally designed as a hotel in the 1970s but hard-times meant it was quickly converted into an office block and has remained so until now. The designer and chef Tom Dixon was commissioned to completely make-over the building to become the latest branch of the Mondrian hotel.
The dramatic renovation uses materials typically used for nautical products and structures such as super-shiny, glamorous metallic finishes offset against distressed copper and exposed concrete. The hotel consists of a restaurant, rooftop bar and lounge overlooking the river, a Strattera No Prescription basement spa, a plush screening room and 360 bedrooms. We’ll have swing by for cocktail on the roof sometime soon!
